Chueca isn’t just a neighborhood; it’s a state of mind. And at night, it transforms into the most vibrant LGBTQ+ ecosystem in Europe. But Chueca is no longer just “gay bars”: it’s award-winning signature mixology (Top 50 World’s Best Bars), it’s cabaret, it’s underground history, and it’s partying until dawn.
Forget those boring “Top 10” lists. Here is the Chueca Nightlife Encyclopedia, classified by tribes, moments, and vibes. From the first beer to the very last dance.
🏳️🌈 MADO 2026 Special
During Pride, these venues act as the unofficial headquarters of the party. If you’re visiting during key dates, check out our Madrid Pride 2026 Survival Guide.
🍴 Pre-Party Gastro: Dinner before the club
Going out on an empty stomach is for rookies. Here are two mandatory neighborhood stops for a great dinner atmosphere before hitting the drinks.
Roostiq
📍 Calle Augusto Figueroa, 47
Fire, embers, and their famous Bacon Crackling (Torreznos) with Champagne. A trendy, lively spot that is absolutely perfect for groups.
La Cocina de San Antón
📍 San Antón Market (Rooftop)
Dining in the heights. Ideal for light tapas with views over Chueca’s rooftops before heading straight downstairs to the bars.
🍸 Class and Glass: Signature Cocktails
Chueca has a massive concentration of talent behind the bar. If you’re looking for top quality, a quiet chat, and to impress your date, start here.
Salmon Guru (Echegaray, 21): It’s not a bar, it’s an experience. A regular on The World’s 50 Best Bars list. Crazy cocktails, neon lights, and overflowing creativity.
Jack’s Library: The mysterious speakeasy hidden behind a bookstore. Check out how to get into Jack’s Library here.
Angelita (Reina, 4): Wines by the glass (over 50 options) and a ‘speakeasy’ cocktail bar in the basement that is pure elegance.
Del Diego (Reina, 12): The classic school. White-jacketed bartenders, New York design, and the best mixed drinks in Madrid.
Cock Bar (Reina, 16): Pure history. High ceilings, a fireplace, and an intellectual aura. Everyone from Almodóvar to Hollywood stars has passed through here.
Macera Taller Bar (San Mateo, 21): They distill their own alcohol with herbs and fruits. Honest prices, indie music, and a very cool vibe.
Areia Colonial (Hortaleza, 92): A chill-out oasis. Beach sand on the floor, Balinese beds, and tropical cocktails.
👠 Kings and Queens: The Temple of Drag
The DNA of Chueca. Feathers, heels, acid humor, and lip-syncing. Seeing at least one show is mandatory.
LL Showbar (Pelayo, 11): The most iconic stage. Continuous shows, local divas, and a guaranteed full house every single night.
Black & White (Libertad, 34): Open since the 80s. It’s living history of Madrid’s nightlife. A nightclub and a stage rolled into one.
Vuélvete Loca (Hortaleza, 43): Spanish pop, maximum camp, and hilarious drag queens. Perfect for singing your heart out.
👩❤️👩 Women Rule
Fulanita de Tal (Regueros, 9): A cultural club with capital letters. Women’s soccer, stand-up comedy, live music, and legendary party nights.
Truco (Gravina, 10): The ultimate local bar. Foosball, beers, good vibes, and a community that stands the test of time.
🐻 Bear, Leather & Clubbing
Hot (Infantas, 9): The starting point for the bear community. Casual and always packed.
Zarpa (Infantas, 26): Another classic neighbor for beers and drinks in a bear-friendly atmosphere.
Saunas: We have benchmark spaces like Octopus or Sauna Center for relaxation and themed events.
☀️ From Madrid to Heaven: Terraces and Rooftops
- Terraza del Room Mate Óscar: Direct views of the heart of the neighborhood in Plaza Pedro Zerolo.
- 11 Nudos Terraza: Perfect for afternoon drinks after eating at the San Antón Market.
- Círculo de Bellas Artes: The best panoramic view of the city (technically on Alcalá street, but just a step away).
- Terraza Riu Plaza: The famous glass walkway in Plaza de España for dizzying photos.
🥂 Don’t want to party alone?
Madrid is incredible, but sharing the night is always better. In the Pride Chueca Tribe, we let each other know where we’re having drinks every night. No dating apps: just real people from the neighborhood sharing a table and a few laughs.
💃 The Big Night: Clubs and Discotecas
To close out the night until 6:00 AM.
DLRO Live (Pelayo, 59): Multiple atmospheres, from commercial pop to house. Late-night shows and a very mixed crowd.
Teatro Barceló (Barceló, 11): The former Pachá. The most architecturally spectacular club. Thursdays and weekends are a massive party.
Medias Puri (Tirso de Molina): A giant “speakeasy”. It looks like a haberdashery, but inside it’s a club with brutal acrobatic shows.
🎹 For the Nostalgic and the Rogues
If singing around a piano or grabbing one last drink in a bar with character is your thing:
- Toni 2 (Almirante, 9): Legendary piano bar. Singing rancheras at 4 AM with strangers is a Madrid tradition.
- Ricks (Clavel, 8): That bar that never closes early and where the locals always end up.
